Bathroom Projects

Small bathroom installations

How can you optimize space when fitting a small bathroom? Installing a bath can still be possible! For this project, the whole 3m2 bathroom was ripped out and new flooring was installed. If you are going to tile a floor like the one below, you will need 18mm plywood, durabase matting for crack prevention and flexible tile adhesive. With the client we decided on a vanity unit and sink with minimal depth to optimize space. No soil pipe was available for this end of the building and so a saniflow was required for the toilet. A standard 1m70 bath with a thermostatic shower valve was installed. At the end of the bath, there was a small area of space to be utilised so i created a cubby hole to store towels.

Total bathroom rip-out

This bathroom required a concealed toilet cistern to be boxed and tiled so the tiles could flow seamlessly around the room. The metro tiles were used slightly different here to create a unique effect. As you can see, they have been installed horizontally and in line which required using a laser level to create accurate lines all around the room. Extra carpentry was required to hide pipe work and maximize space. The floor tiles chosen are good quality porcelain with a unique pattern to create a parquetry effect. A wall hung vanity unit can create the illusion of extra space. Bear in mind that a good strong wall fixing is required to install this type of unit.

Underfloor heating

Looking for a little bit of luxury? Electrical underfloor heating is not as expensive as you might think, depending on the square meterage. It’s also quick and easy to install in most cases. In the before picture below, you can see the underfloor matting and cable in place ready to be tiled. Certain brands of underfloor heating now make it very easy to tile over reducing time and cost.

Walk-in showers

Walk-in showers are becoming increasingly popular. Walk-in tray showers are an inexpensive option and don’t require whole room waterproofing. This still gives you a feel of a wet room. An advantage of a walk-in shower is that you only require one glass screen as opposed to a sliding door enclosure which can take away the feel of openess.

Kitchen renovations

For this renovation, I knocked through the small galley kitchen into the dining room to create a large open plan kitchen dining/living area. This project also incorporated the pantry and original coal shed into the design to create an extended kitchen area. Part of the beauty of this design was utilizing the original available space which cuts the cost of building an actual extension.
